AUSROADS is looking for feedback on heavy vehicle licensing and is encouraging drivers, employers and trainers to have their say on proposed changes to heavy vehicle driver licensing in Australia. Four key areas of change are proposed:
To ensure comments from WA Stakeholders is taken into account during the consultation process, participants are encouraged to send a copy of your feedback to the LDSC via amanda@ldsc.asn.au. The MAR Industry Reference Committee has submitted the Case for Endorsement and draft Training Package materials for the Autonomous Maritime Systems project to the Australian Industry and Skills Committee for their consideration. The materials include a new Certificate III in Autonomous Maritime Systems, eight new Units of Competency and three new Skill Sets. These draft products provide a national and standardised approach to training for Autonomous Maritime Systems (AMS), Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) and Underwater Surface Vessels (USV) job roles.

The Transport and Logistics Industry Reference Committee has submitted the Case for Endorsement and draft Training Package materials for the Materiel and Deployment Logistics project to the Australian Industry and Skills Committee for their consideration. The revised materials include updates to four qualifications, five Skill Sets and 31 Units of Competency. These draft products address changes in technology and Defence processes and provide an aligned career pathway for Defence and logistics support personnel to enhance workforce mobility across the sector.

Residents of the Goldfields may be eligible to receive funding for studies through the Future of Work (FoW) program, which is supported by BHP and the Australian Government Department of Education. The aim of the program is to prepare the nation’s workforce for the future by creating 1,000 skills development opportunities through funding short courses and advanced apprenticeships for students. This means your enrolment in a short course (Undergraduate Certificate or Graduate Certificate) could make you eligible for the cost of your study to be covered by the program. Eligible students will also need to provide evidence of enrolment in a short course with a Commonwealth Supported Place at a higher education provider, and have commenced their studies in 2021 or 2022. Veterans’ Health Week (VHW) is a Department of Veterans’ Affairs program that aims to generate interest in, and raise awareness around, improving health and wellbeing for former and current serving Australian Defence Force personnel, their families and carers. Four priority health and wellbeing themes for VHW rotate on an annual basis: Get Moving (physical activity); Eat Well (nutrition); Mental Wellbeing Matters (mental wellness); and Keep Connected (social connection). The National Centre for Vocational Education and Research (NCVER) has released their latest statistical report showing an increase in completions of nationally recognised VET qualifications. VET qualification completion rates 2021 shows that 45.9% of all nationally recognised VET qualifications that started in 2017 were completed, higher than those commencing in 2016 (43.8%).
Students enrolled at enterprise providers had the highest completion rates for qualifications commencing in 2017 (55.5%), followed by schools (48.0%), private training providers (47.3%), universities (45.6%), TAFE institutes (43.0%) and community education providers (40.7%). By level of education, diploma or higher qualifications had the highest completion rates for those commencing in 2017 (56.2%), a considerable increase from those commencing in 2016 (45.5%).
