Recently announced in the Budget, the Federal Government will commit an additional $500 million, to be matched by State and Territory governments, to expand the JobTrainer Fund by a further 163,000 places and extend the program until 31 December 2022. The Fund will support training in digital skills and upskilling in critical industries (I.e. Rail). The JobTrainer Fund was launched in 2020 and will support hundreds of thousands of job seekers, school leavers and young people by providing access to free or low-fee training places in areas of skills shortages.

The Australian government is to develop an air traffic control-style system for drones, which will be created in collaboration with Defence, Airservices and CASA. It will also include a new National Drone Detection Network that will use sensors to monitor the devices and safeguard privacy, noise and their use at cultural sites. It aims to begin initial operations in 2023.
The Defence Industry Veterans Employment Scheme (DIVES) scholarship program will encourage veterans to take-up a career in the defence industry. The program will be delivered by Defence West, in partnership with industry, starting in 2021.
The Women in Defence Industry scholarship program is delivered by South Metropolitan TAFE, in partnership with industry. The program offers two qualifications, achieved over six months; the Certificate II in Electronics, and the Certificate III in Engineering — Technical, which can open up a range of job and career opportunities in the defence industry. Applications are now open and provides a fantastic opportunity for women thinking of a career change or returning to the workforce.

North Regional TAFE's Broome Hospitality and Student Services Centre has moved forward with tenders for the construction of the $10 million project now open. Once finalised the project aims to create state-of-the-art facilities, giving the region greater access to speciality training in hospitality, tourism, hair and beauty and creating more than 1,000 jobs.

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) has partnered with Coles and its supply chain partners Toll and Linfox, to educate road users about sharing the road safely with heavy vehicles.
