The Certificate III in Defence Industry Pathways Program was jointly developed by South Metropolitan TAFE (SMT) and the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) as a vocational education pathway to the marine supply chain in WA. The Defence oversight of this program has transferred with Rear Admiral Wendy Malcolm to a new Defence section called the Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG). The group head is Tony Dalton. The NSSG will implement Government policy to develop a naval shipbuilding and sovereign sustainment industry.
Australian businesses and industry have the opportunity to participate in the next generation of contracts to deliver base services around Australia and support Defence’s key capabilities. It follows the release of the Request for Proposal (RFP) for a fourth generation of contracts. Small and medium-sized businesses, Indigenous businesses, as well as social and veteran enterprises are welcomed to consider becoming part of the supply chain supporting Australian bases. Base services provide significant employment opportunities, contributing to a strong and resilient domestic Defence industry.
Current contracts for base services are due to expire in mid-2024. Industry can go to AusTender for more information.
