The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) commissioned the development of ten nationally endorsed cross sector supply chain Skills Sets and sixteen Units of Competency to be delivered through the VET system. To ensure high quality delivery and assessment of the new cross sectoral skills, Australian Industry Standards (AIS), the body responsible for developing the new Skill Sets and Units of Competency with industry, has produced a compendium of guidance for Registered Training Organisations on how to contextualise these skills for different industries.

The Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD) are undertaking a regional labour market analysis for the Bunbury-Wellington sub-region of the South West. They survey will seek feedback on the skills and training needs of their workforce during the post-COVID-19 recovery period. If you are an employer located in this region you are invited to participate in the survey. The survey will close 6 November 2020.

The State Government will slash fees on an additional 107 TAFE courses, as part of the new JobTrainer Agreement with the Commonwealth Government. Under the Lower Fees, Local Skills initiative, fees have been reduced by up to 72% for 180 courses in total, to make training more affordable for Western Australians. The 107 additional reduced-fee courses will deliver training in sectors including maritime and logistics. Reduced course fees for the additional 107 courses will be available from January 1, 2021.

The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) has considered all stakeholder feedback and finalised draft Training Package materials for the Remotely Piloted Aircraft – Excluded Category Operations project. This includes: one new Skill Set and one new Unit of Competency. The TAC has also supported the inclusion of the new Unit of Competency as an elective in the Certificate I in Aviation (Foundation Skills). The Aviation Industry Reference Committee is now seeking your feedback to validate these drafts to ensure the proposed products meet industry needs. Feedback closes Wednesday, 28 October 2020.
