The Year 9 Career Taster Program (CTP) Portal will be going live from week 4 of term 2. The portal connects schools with engaging industry experiences through a searchable database and houses informational resources for career pathway planning. The CTP offers employers and industry bodies a fantastic opportunity to showcase their industry and engage young people through highlighting current and future occupations and career pathways available. Industry bodies, employers and training bodies can nominate to provide an experience via the Portal, or by filling out the attached Event and Experience form. Industry experiences and resources will be added to the Portal as they become available. Please use the Event and Experience form and send it through to Career.TasterProgram@dtwd.wa.gov.au. ![]()
All Australian workers now need some level of digital skills aligned to tasks such as recording orders, deliveries, timesheets and budgets. The Digital Skills Organisation is delivering a pilot program offering free short, practical online training developed with industry, reflecting in-demand skills and designed to ensure workplace relevance. The training is free of charge until 30 June 2022.

Feedback has now been aggregated, deidentified and submitted to the State Training Board per the Establishment and Variation of Apprenticeship (EVAC) process. Although the submission has now closed, consultations will continue to be held to discuss this issue. In November 2021 Main Roads announced a review of the Heavy Vehicle Pilot Licence scheme. To assist Heavy Vehicle Services (HVS) undertake the review, a Pilot Licence Reference Group was established to consider significant aspects and inform decisions. The review is being led by an independent facilitator and meetings began in March 2022. Information about the progress of the group will be published on the My Say Transport website.

The Seamless Future Rail Skills Project has been initiated by Australian Industry Standards to improve access and pathways to current and future rail skills needed to build and operate the national rail network and to help increase workforce supply. Developing training pathways underpinned by a strategic skills audit will support new and existing workers shifting into new roles. 30 training pathways are being developed in four tranches under the guidance and direction of the project’s Technical Advisory Group and the Reference Group.
If you would like to be involved in the consultation period for tranche three, please email futurerailskills@aistnds.org.au to be notified of the training pathways release. As part of the budget recently announced small businesses will receive a tax deduction to train new staff and upskill existing employees. Eligible small businesses will receive a $120 tax deduction for every $100 spent on training new employees.
