The Re-engagement Incentive was introduced by the State Government on 1 July 2020 to support apprentices and trainees whose training contract was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Incentive offered financial assistance to employers who re-engaged displaced apprentices and trainees from the Department of Training and Workforce Development’s (DTWD) Out of Contract Register. Since 1 July 2020, over 5,000 displaced apprentices and trainees have been helped to become re-engaged to continue their training, and over 1,500 employers assisted to secure skilled workers.
The DTWD will continue to manage and maintain the Out of Contract Register (which is due to cease on 30 June 2022). The list currently has over 300 students State-wide who are keen to complete their training with a new employer in industries such as in;
