Driver Delivery Program to Launch in Victoria to Address Skills Shortages for Transport and Logistics
The Victorian Transport Authority with support of the Victorian Government has established a Driver Delivery Program. This is an intensive eight-day course that trains participants to be competent in operating heavy vehicles and obtain a Heavy Rigid (HR) or Heavy Combination (HC) licence on completion. Participants receive a foundation of driving skills needed.to operate heavy vehicles safely i.e. OSH, Load Restraint, Fatigue Management, Loading Docks, Metropolitan and Rural Driving, Cabin Drills, Road Craft, Vehicle Inspection and Chain of Responsibility and Risk Reduction Techniques.
In related news the Tasmanian Transport Association will launch a pilot program to bring new job-ready heavy vehicle drivers into the transport industry. Supported by a $80,000 grant from the Tasmanian government, the program will cover key areas like fatigue management and load restraint. The program will link participants with potential employers.
