We are currently evaluating a proposal to vary an existing Class B Traineeship (TLI31216 Certificate III Driving Operations) to a Class A Heavy Vehicle Driving Apprenticeship (TLI31221 Certificate III in Driving Operations) through an Establishment and Variation of Apprenticeship (EVAC) process via the STB. Please see the attached document, and below hyperlinks for further details.
As our initial consultations identified differing suitability needs for WA stakeholders, in particular for the Bus and Dangerous Goods sectors, further evaluation is required to ensure the proposed apprenticeship meets the needs of WA employers across all industries. As well as determining any potential impacts to training arrangements or business requirements.
National consultation was undertaken by Australian Industry Standards (AIS) on the 28 September 2021. Following this initial consultation period, it was determined there was industry demand for a Heavy Vehicle Driver Apprenticeship and AIS would execute steps to implement this process with each State and Territory authorities and Skills Ministers.
What is Needed From Industry
Our submission to State Government must be backed by Industry evidence. It is essential we speak to as many WA Road Transport stakeholders as possible to ensure the proposed apprenticeship is fit for purpose. If you currently employ or subcontract drivers with a Heavy Vehicle licence (regardless of whether you currently undertake any formal training) then we need to speak with you!
Meetings will occur between now and 18 March 2022
